Suffolk riverside garden

This garden is set on the banks of the river Deben in Suffolk.  There is a feeling of connection not only ancestrally to the ancient burial site of Sutton Hoo which is minutes away but also a deep connection to nature and the spirit of the place

The garden is designed with a light touch capturing the site’s essential essence but not overpowering it, allowing it's owners to protect this slice of Suffolk land with it's diverse wildlife.  Soft curving lines make up the design reflecting the meandering shape of the river Deben.  A simple palette of hard landscaping materials have been used with wood as the material of choice throughout the site.  Furniture has been carved using fallen down trees found on site with sustainability being at the forefront of the design ethos, no waste from the garden will leave the site allowing plants and trees to fall back into the ground enriching the soil.  Biodiversity enrichment is the primary objective of this garden and much of the land will be left to re-wild.

Planting is loose and naturalistic with a mix of native and non-native perennials used to ensure pollinators are catered for as long as possible.  Large areas of meadow provide habitats for insects and food for birds.  A large vegetable patch, orchard and nuttery are key features providing home grown deliciousness.  A mix of perennials and grasses are used in the main planting beds which will seemingly bleed out into the riverside landscape where reeds and grasses grow in the wild.
