The Old Mill, West Sussex
The Old Mill's garden is a beautiful English garden full of aroma and colour. The design allows for the garden to be broken up into different areas to sit and relax or entertain and plenty of space for children to play.
The garden will create habitats for insects and wildlife with a focus on sustainability and biodiversity. It will be full of the sound of song birds and the buzzing of bee's.
The original windmill is connected to the landscape through anchor planting. New pleached trees create privacy from neighbours and the original features - beautiful brick walls, the mill stone and existing trees are retained and emphasised keeping the special character of the place. The original mill pond is the main feature in the garden, the shape of which has been tweaked to allow more space for lawn and planting. The paving will be re-used in other areas of the garden for steps and terraces.
Planting will be a mix of herbaceous perennials, some evergreen for structure, ornamental grasses and some new trees to provide dappled shade and atmosphere. The trees will also break up the garden to create a sense of privacy and quiet in certain areas.
